Bolivia is one of our favorite international destinations.
A rich blend of native culture fills the country with flavor
akin to Nepal. The mountains of the Cordillera Real
in Bolivia, hold some of the best introduction to high altitude
mountaineering peaks in the Andes.
We will begin our expedition in the high altitude city of
La Paz (12,100 ft), where we will acclimatize for several
days before heading off to our first objective. We will
travel through the small village of Estancia Tuni on our way
into the Peaks of Condorri (18,562 ft.) Pequeno Alpamayo
(17,716 ft).
These two peaks will be used as our introduction to the range
and offer extremely aesthetic climbing with views of the amazon
jungle on one side and the high plains on the other.
We will also have time to practice glacier skills and water
fall ice climbing prior to our ascents on the nearby glacier.
We then travel back to La Paz for some needed rest and to
sample many of the fine restaurants. Our next objective
will be highest peak in the Cordillera Real, Illamani (21,200
ft).
The summit of Illamani requires a sustained effort, though
even getting to the peak can be an adventure. We leave
from La Paz via a 4x4 vehicle traveling down the river valley
through numerous rustic villages. After crossing the
river several times we come to our starting point for the
climb, Estancia Una. We will load all of our personal
gear onto mules for our leisurely hike into bascamp (14,400
ft).
From basecamp we will climb with the aid of high altitude
porters to El Nido De Condors, our high camp (17,880 ft).
We wake up early for the summit traveling over glaciers and
steep ridges to a beautiful summit.
Come join us this fall in the high Andes!
