Day 1
We meet at 9:00 am at the Tuolumne Meadows store.
After a quick pack check, we begin our hike up the
spectacular Lyell Canyon along the John Muir Trail.
The 8-9 mile hike takes us along the beautiful Lyell
Fork of the Tuolumne River to our basecamp at the
head of the canyon. The evening is spent enjoying
a fine backcountry dinner and resting.
Day 2
After an early start we travel cross-country to the
Lyell Glacier, one of Yosemite's largest. We cross
the glacier which brings us to a ridge and some rock
scrambling that brings us to the summit of Mount Lyell
(13,114 ft) Yosemite National Park's highest point.
After enjoying the views we descend back to basecamp
for more fine backcountry food.
Day 3
After a leisurely breakfast we begin our hike down
the Lyell Canyon back to the trailhead at Tuolumne
Medows. Usually we arrive at the cars around 3pm.
