We are very excited to offer guided yurt-based backcountry skiing this coming season - California's first. The yurt is a large 10-person structure with heat, dining area and bunk beds (sleepng bag required). We will be providing 3 meals a day including a "backcountry gourmet" dinner each night. The ski-in ski-out yurt is located in the backcountry near the wilderness boundary in the Virginia Lakes area of the Eastern Sierra Nevada, an area California Alpine Guides has been operating ski touring trips for many years. Amazing ski descents are literally out the doorstep!
We are offering two types of trips. We have scheduled 3-day, 2 night trips in which individuals can sign up and we are also booking custom-date trips for groups of 4 or more. On all of our yurt skiing trips, the yurt is reserved exclusively for CAG guests. In conjuction with High Sierra Snowcat, we will also be providing snowcat transportation up to the yurt along the unplowed Virginia Lakes Road . This means more time for skiing!
The ski terrain around the yurt is in the Hoover Wilderness area near Virginia Lakes and contains some of Califonia's best backcountry skiing. This amazing area has a huge variety of terrain on all aspects so finding good snow is never an issue. Wide open bowls, mellow tree slopes, steep chutes and corn runs...it has it all.
Our IFMGA internationally certified and AMGA-trained ski guides will provide an enjoyable experience and top-notch instruction, leaving you to simply enjoy the skiing and the beautiful surroundings.

Location: Virgnia Lakes & Hoover Wilderness, Eastern Sierra Nevada between the towns of Lee Vining and Bridgeport, just North of the ski resort town of Mammoth Lakes.
Prerequisites: We can accommodate groups of all abilities of strong intermediate and above, but skiers must be comfortable in ungroomed (powder and crud) conditions.
No previous backcountry experience required. Very good physical shape required.
